Mica tube for electrical insulation is a mineral. By its chemical  composition, mica is an aluminosilicate, and by its structure a phyllosilicate. It is formed by parallel sheets of silicate tetrahedra on each side of an octahedral layer. Depending on the elements and their position in this structure, a great variety of micas have been established. Two of them have been adopted by their industrial value. There are several types of mica. However, the most commonly used are phlogopite mica (withstanding up to 1000°C) and muscovite mica (withstanding up to 750°C). Both mica tube types are impregnated with a silicon resin that can resist high temperature levels.

Choose muscovite for general electrical insulation where temperature stays below 500°C continuous. Choose phlogopite for high-temperature applications - heating elements, furnaces, metallurgical equipment - where thermal endurance is the priority.

At ≥90% mica and ≤10% binder, our tubes maximize the properties you're paying for - dielectric strength, temperature resistance, and dimensional stability - while using just enough resin to maintain structural integrity.

Low Moisture Absorption - Stable Dielectric Performance

≤1.5% water absorption after 24-hour immersion (ISO 62). Properly stored in original packaging (≤40°C), the tubes maintain their dielectric integrity for a 2-year shelf life from production date. No moisture-induced insulation failure in the field.

Precision Machining from Rigid Mica Plate

Tubes are fabricated from rigid, silicone-resin-bonded mica plates - not extruded from paste. This manufacturing method produces tubes with consistent wall thickness, clean bore surfaces, and the structural integrity to handle press-fit installation and thermal cycling without delamination.

When an Insulation Tube Fails, the Equipment Behind It Fails Too

Mica tubes don't look like much - a rigid, brown or silver-gray cylinder. But inside a heating element, a transformer bushing, or a furnace terminal, that tube is the only thing standing between high voltage and a grounded chassis. When it fails, the failure cascades.

"The tube cracked during installation. We had to scrap the entire assembly." "The insulation resistance dropped after three months in the field." Mica is hygroscopic - it absorbs moisture from the air. If the tube wasn't properly dried and sealed, or if storage conditions were poor before installation, moisture works its way in. Dielectric strength drops. The tube that tested fine at the factory arcs over in service. You're dispatching a service team to a remote installation because moisture found its way into a tube that should have been bone-dry.

"We specified phlogopite for 900°C but the tubes were made from muscovite." Muscovite mica is rated to 750°C. Phlogopite to 1000°C. At 900°C, muscovite calcines - it loses structural water, becomes brittle, and delaminates. The tube crumbles. The heating element shorts to ground. The difference between mica types is invisible to the naked eye. It only becomes visible when the equipment fails.

"The custom tube dimensions took 8 weeks. The project was already behind schedule." Custom-machined mica tubes require precision fabrication. "The dimensional tolerance was too loose. The tube didn't fit the housing." A mica tube for a heating element mandrel, a transformer bushing, or a furnace electrode must match the assembly dimensions precisely. ±0.5mm might work for some applications. ±0.2mm for others.
