wall sticker release paper
A wall sticker is stuck once, by hand. A pressure-sensitive label is applied thousands of times a minute by a machine. That is the whole difference. Our 55gsm kraft release paper is the liner for wall stickers, wall decals and self-adhesive wallpaper — laminated to your adhesive side to protect it through slitting, storage and shipping, then peeled off and thrown away. Because wall stickers are hand-applied and the liner is discarded, you do not need — and should not pay for — label-grade liner. This paper is made for the wall sticker line, not the label line.

Product Introduction
Products Description
What this paper does in your line
You coat adhesive on your wall sticker material - PVC, XPE foam, fabric or vinyl. This kraft paper is then laminated onto the adhesive side as the protective liner. After that it has exactly three jobs:
Stay bonded to the adhesive through slitting, rewinding and shipping.
Release cleanly, at the speed a human hand peels it.
Stay flat on a wide web so the laminate does not wrinkle or trap air.
It does not need to be printed on, it does not need high opacity, and it does not need the caliper consistency a rotary die-cutter demands. That is where the cost comes out.

Why 55gsm costs less without costing you anything that matters
1. Hand application, not high-speed labelling
A label applicator runs at up to 300 m/min and needs release force held within a very narrow band, plus enough stiffness that the web does not flutter. Wall stickers are peeled by hand, at low speed, at a good peel angle. The tolerance your process actually needs is far wider than a label line's. Buying label-grade liner for wall stickers means paying for precision the line never uses.
2. The liner is thrown away
Label liner often has to be printable, sometimes double-coated, and increasingly transparent for "no-label look" applications. Wall sticker liner carries none of that. It protects the adhesive, then it goes in the bin. Fewer requirements, lower cost.
3. Freight on wide rolls is real money
Wall stickers and self-adhesive wallpaper are commonly run at 530 mm and 1060 mm web widths. At 55 gsm against a conventional 80–100 gsm release kraft, you are shipping roughly 30–45% less paper weight per square metre - more metres per roll diameter, less weight per container. For an exporter, that is a line you can calculate.
When 55gsm is not the right answer
We would rather tell you than have you find out on the line. If any of these apply, use a heavier grade - we supply those too:
| Your situation | 55gsm | What to use instead |
|---|---|---|
| Hand application, standard web width | Suitable | 55gsm - this page |
| Web width above 1000 mm at high lamination speed | Too soft, risk of wrinkling or trapped air | 80–100gsm |
| Fine die-cutting with tight registration | Not stiff enough to hold register | 80gsm or above |
| End users peel roughly, or the product is reworked | Tears more easily | 80gsm or above |
| Double-sided coating or printable liner required | Not applicable | Double sided release paper |

One thing we ask you to check on any light grade: silicone strike-through. The lighter the paper, the easier silicone can migrate to the back side - which makes the roll slip, winds off-centre (telescoping), and can carry silicone onto the adhesive.

FAQ
What gsm release paper should I use for wall stickers?
For hand-applied wall stickers on standard web widths, 55gsm is normally enough and is the most economical. Move to 80–100gsm if your web is wider than about 1000 mm, if you laminate at high speed, or if you need tight die-cutting registration.
Can I use label release paper for wall stickers instead?
You can, but you will pay for properties your product does not use. Label liner is engineered for high-speed applicators and often for printability and transparency. Wall sticker liner is peeled by hand and discarded.
What release force do I need?
For large-format, hand-peeled stickers, a light-to-medium release is the usual starting point. Tell us your adhesive system and the web width and we will recommend a level - 10-20g.
Will the paper tear when the end user peels it?
At 55gsm with a correct peel angle, no. It tears more easily than 80gsm if the sticker is very large or peeled fast and at a sharp angle. If your end product is premium, go heavier - it is a cheap insurance policy.
Single sided or double sided?
Single sided is standard for wall sticker liner: the silicone side faces the adhesive, the back side stays untreated so the roll winds correctly. Double sided is for applications where both faces touch adhesive.
Can you slit to 530 mm or 1060 mm?
Yes.
