What are the applications of mica in heat exchanger materials?
Sep 20, 2024
The application of mica in heat exchanger materials is mainly reflected in its thermal insulation, high temperature resistance, insulation and sealing properties. These characteristics make mica have important application value in heat exchangers under high temperature and high pressure environments.

The following are specific applications of mica in heat exchanger materials:
1. Thermal insulation performance
- High temperature stability: Mica board has natural thermal insulation properties due to its layered silicate mineral structure. This structure is not easy to change at high temperatures and can maintain the stability of the material, thereby effectively isolating heat transfer.
-Application fields: The thermal insulation properties of mica boards make them widely used in equipment requiring high-temperature insulation, such as furnaces, heat exchangers, and chimneys.
2. High temperature resistance and insulation
-Electrical insulation properties: Mica board has good electrical insulation properties, which can effectively prevent current leakage and arc discharge and ensure the normal operation of electrical equipment.
- High-temperature equipment applications: Mica boards can withstand high-temperature environments of up to 1000°C and maintain the structural stability and insulation properties of the material. Therefore, they are often used in the manufacture of high-temperature equipment such as high-temperature furnaces, heat pipes, and heat exchangers.
3.Sealing performance
- Resistant to extreme conditions: Mica gaskets exhibit exceptional durability when faced with extreme temperatures and pressures, such as in applications such as gas turbines and exhaust manifolds. For example, SealTex flex ST-4976 is a high-temperature resistant material composed of double-sided fiber-reinforced mica and intermediate metal sprint. It is especially suitable for sealing equipment exhaust ports, turbochargers and other occasions.
-Anti-sticking performance: The natural anti-sticking property of mica material can effectively prevent the gasket material from adhering to the flange sealing surface, thereby maintaining a good sealing effect.
