What Is Polyimide Tape?

Polyimide tape is made from polyimide film coated with a high-temperature-resistant silicone adhesive. Unlike regular plastic tapes, polyimide film maintains its mechanical strength, electrical insulation, and dimensional stability even under extreme temperatures.

Typical specifications:

Thickness: 0.05mm – 0.1mm

Temperature resistance: up to 260°C continuous, withstands short peaks of 300°C

Dielectric strength: ≥ 6 kV

Colors: amber (classic), black, transparent

 

Why is polyimide tape used on PCBs?
1. High-temperature soldering protection

During the PCB production process, it undergoes processes such as wave soldering and reflow soldering, with temperatures reaching over 250°C.
Ordinary tapes easily melt, deform, or leave adhesive marks, but polyimide tapes remain intact, protecting areas on the PCB that do not require soldering.
