Matte Release Film: A High-End Lamination and Isolation Material

Matte release film is an exceptional high-end lamination isolation material characterized by its superior filling and temperature resistance, high tensile and tear strength, chemical inertness, and non-adhesive properties.

Manufactured by adjusting the raw PET transparent film formula and adding silica, the surface of the film gains a suitable roughness. A uniform 0.2µm–0.6µm layer of release silicone oil is applied and dried on the polyester film's surface, giving the matte release film its unique attributes.

The result is a product with a smooth, clean surface, even coating, high cleanliness, stable release force, and excellent adhesive residue retention for tapes. When selecting PET matte base films, defects such as wrinkles, tears, particles, bubbles, and pinholes must be avoided.

Functions of Matte Release Film

Matte release film is primarily used in:

FPC Flexible Circuit Boards

Die-Cutting Industry

Food Packaging

Automotive Insulation

Thickness Specifications and Cutting Guidelines

The matte release film is available in various thicknesses, including 25µm, 30µm, 36µm, 38µm, 50µm, 75µm, 100µm, 125µm, and 188µm.

For rapid lamination in FPC flexible circuit boards, the film must be cut into appropriate dimensions. A recommended size is T:35μm × W:280mm × L:350mm, though adjustments can be made based on the FPC layout design or the specifications of existing equipment.

Manual and Mechanical Cutting

Matte release films can be cut manually or mechanically. Regardless of the cutting method, operations must take place in a cleanroom environment with controlled temperature and humidity. Operators should wear dust-free protective gear, ensuring no direct skin contact with the product.

Mechanical Cutting

Mechanical cutting often uses sheet-fed cutting machines, which offer adjustable sizes and high speed. A single machine can process up to 30,000 sheets daily with precise accuracy.

To ensure optimal performance:

Demagnetization Rods: Place one at the blade and another at the material feed area. Ensure both are grounded for functionality.

Dust Removal Rollers: Incorporate 4–6 adhesive rollers with adhesive films (approximately 30g tackiness) to remove dust from the matte release film. Replace the adhesive film periodically to maintain efficiency.

Applications in Lamination Processes

Matte release film is ideal for laminating copper-clad laminates (CCL) or epoxy-based FR-4 laminates, offering:

High-temperature tolerance (180°C–220°C)

Excellent filling capacity and durability

Resistance to adhesives and chemical interactions

It can completely replace materials like copper foil and TPX adhesive-blocking films, reducing material and labor costs while enhancing productivity. Its unique properties make it an excellent release material for multilayer PCB manufacturing and a preferred isolation material for flexible printed circuits (FPC).

For FR-4 multilayer boards, the recommended film thickness is 50µm, with standard dimensions of T:50μm × W:1070mm × L:1270mm. Handle the film with care and store it at 25°C with 60% relative humidity. Keep it away from heat, fire, and direct sunlight to maintain its quality.

Conclusion

Matte release film is a high-performance material that delivers unparalleled benefits in lamination and isolation processes. With its excellent thermal stability, strength, and versatility, it is a cost-effective and efficient alternative to traditional materials like copper foil. Its role in FPC, PCB, and other advanced manufacturing applications underscores its importance in modern production lines.
